The Region One 21st Century Workforce Initiative is pleased to once again offer to all of our partners the opportunity to have managers and front-line staff participate in a nationally recognized program to enhance their skills in working with job seekers transitioning careers and seeking work in a troubled economy. This program is being offered at no cost to the participants.

Nationally recognized trainer and author Jay Block will personally conduct these workshops. Mr. Block has created a groundbreaking functional and structured Job Transition Program / Process (JTP) that has been highly successful in assisting job seekers of all levels to identify, pursue, and achieve their career objectives in volatile, fluctuating, and ever-changing labor markets. His Career Rejuvenation® program has become a primary certification program for career counselors nationally and was the basis for the nine step process developed by the 21st Century Career Transition Workgroup.

Jay presented this 2-day program in May 2008 to 120 front line professionals in SE Michigan. The feedback and results achieved based on the training were outstanding. Members of the 21st Century Career Transition Workgroup have indicated that the training has helped case load management, improve staff morale; and most importantly, it has helped job seekers find the right training and jobs. In addition, it has resulted in 1) a new branding statement (Take Your Career in a New Direction), 2) the creation of a 9-step career transition process and 3) motivational / empowerment posters that are currently displayed in Michigan Works One Stops Centers and Community College Career Counseling offices throughout SE Michigan.

Since the 2008 presentation, Mr. Block has made many improvements to the program. The “transition process” model has been so effective, it is now a significant part of his newly released book, published by McGraw-Hill: 101 Best Ways to Land a Job in Troubled Times.

Jay has customized the program to effectively meet the specific demands and needs of our workforce system in SE Michigan. Each participant will receive a copy of Jay Block’s newly released book which contains dozens of tools, models, and systems to land a job in these troubling times and will assist trainers and customers with every aspect of the 9-step process.

What makes this program unique is that it is 100% VALUES-BASED and PROCESS-DRIVEN. Job seekers identify their “signature values” - both life and career, and establish career options in alignment with these values. When this occurs, individuals seeking work, education and training become energized, proactive, passionate, and action-oriented in executing a process-driven job transition campaign – rather than a fear-based, painful job search.

Programs will be offered at two locations – Schoolcraft College on January 21nd and 22rd, and the South Campus of Macomb Community College on January 28th and 29th. We encourage career counselors, case managers and other professionals who directly serve job seekers or are a part of their career transition process to participate in the programs. However, because of limited seating we ask that people who DID NOT participate in the May 2008 programs attend.

We are limited to 120 participants (60 each session) so please register early. Spaces will be held for each community college and Michigan Works! Agency in the region. Please contact Marilyn Opdyke at marilyn@opdykegroup.com if you have questions.
