Scott Kallenberg is a veteran and he attended the Information Session at the Michigan Works! Monroe Service Center in July of 2016 to inquire about services for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity (WIOA) Program. He was previously employed with Aramark Uniform Service as a Route Salesman Representative; however, due to lack of work his position was eliminated.
Scott completed the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) Test and was registered as a Dislocated Worker. Case Manager, Dan Baker, referred him to Brenda Shopshire, the Center’s Licensed Professional Counselor to complete the Truity Holland Code Assessment. He decided to pursue a career as a CDL-A Truck Driver and chose to attend the International Truck Driving School located in Canton, MI. Scott also requested assistance with transportation expenses so fuel cards were provided to attend classes without undue financial hardship. Scott successfully completed the CDL A Training and obtained the CDL A License on October 13, 2016.
Scott is now working full time as a CDL-A Truck Driver for PGT. He is currently earning a salary of $45,000. Scott would like to share his experience with Michigan Works! with others who might be in a similar situation. “The staff was very supportive throughout the entire process. [My] Case Worker, Dan, kept himself available to me whenever I had a question or needed help.”
