On November 16th, MASCO Corporation hosted the Downriver Summit Fall Leadership Meeting at their headquarters in Taylor. In addition to opening its doors to the Downriver Summit, MASCO provided a continental breakfast for the 130 people who attended. The Vice President of Human resources at Masco, Daniel Foley, welcomed the attendees. “160 of MASCO’s employees live downriver,” he told the crowd. “Whenever we are recruiting, we always find loyal, dependable workers in the downriver region.” he stated. The purpose of the Fall Leadership Meeting is to plan for next year’s Downriver Summit. |

Attendees actively participated in discussions of issues that they would like to see addressed at the spring event. Once again, the Southern Wayne County Chamber of Commerce brought the students from their Youth Leadership program to participate in the planning sessions. After the welcoming remarks, the group broke up into four workshops based on areas that have been identified as areas of importance to the Downriver region. These four areas are: Workforce Development, Quality of Life, Economic Development, and Infrastructure. Economic Development seemed to be the most popular session, probably due to the down turn in the American economy. The Downriver Summit is made possible through the generous contributions of all of our sponsors including: General Motors, Ford Motor Company, DaimlerChrysler, Ameritech, Wayne County Executive Office GIS Management Unit, Butzel Long, Attorneys and Counselors, Canadian National Railroad, CMS Enterprises Company, Comcast, Detroit-Edison, Great Lakes Division National Steel, and Northwest Airlines.
