SEMCA is open 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday - Friday.

Can SEMCA assist with obtaining a bridge card (also known as food stamps)?

No, applications are available at the Department of Human Services office in each county. Click here to locate the office in your county.

Can you assist with transportation?

No, but if you are a senior, help may be available. Contact your local transportation authority. You can also contact your local Area Agency on Aging to inquire if transportation services are available in your county.

Can you assist with child care services?

No, to check if you are eligible for child care services, contact the Department of Human Services Child Development and Care Program. You can access information on the Michigan.gov web site by typing in child care services in the search engine.

Treatment Services:

What is the region that SEMCA serves?

SEMCA serves Wayne and Monroe counties, excluding the city of Detroit. Anyone needing treatment services outside of the SEMCA region should call a coordinating agency in their area. List of other Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Providers in Michigan

Can I apply for Medicaid through SEMCA?

No, applications are available at the Department of Human Services office in each county. Click here to locate the Department of Human Services office near you.

Where do I go for mental health services?

Wayne County residents call the Wayne County Community Mental Health Agency at (313)-833-2500 or visit www.waynecounty.com/mhealth/. Monroe residents call Monroe Community Mental Health at (734)-243-7340 or visit www.monroecmha.org/. More information can also be found in SEMCA’s member services handbook (add link).

Where can I get an authorization for substance abuse services?

Through SEMCA’s Access Management System (AMS), which is an access system that requires agents to screen individuals to determine what level of care/program is recommended for a client.

What are the hours of operation for the Access Management System?

Individuals can receive screenings and treatment referrals 24 hours a day and seven days a week.

How long is the screening?

Typically, the screenings are 15-20 minutes.

Does SEMCA offer treatment services?

No, individuals are referred to SEMCA’s treatment providers.

What drugs do the AMS agents address?

All, with the exception of tobacco.

Can my son/daughter receive treatment?

Yes, if they are under 18, however, they are required to undergo a screening that takes about 25 minutes.

What do I need to do to receive unemployment services?

Unemployed workers can file their new unemployment claims or re-open established claims by dialing a special toll-free telephone number: 1-866-500-0017. More information can be found at www.michigan.gov/uia.
