One of the responsibilities of a Coordinating Agency is to monitor all recipient rights complaints made by clients at any substance abuse provider in the agency’s region. The Southeast Michigan Community Alliance’s Substance Abuse Division reviews all complaints made in Wayne County (excluding the City of Detroit) and Monroe County. Because of this responsibility, SEMCA provides training and technical assistance to providers regarding handling complaints promptly and efficiently.
On April 25, 2001 SEMCA provided a recipient rights training to providers in the region. |

Due to the confidential nature of substance abuse information, part of the seminar focused on sensitivity training. Discussion centered around the type of population served and meeting their needs without the client having to file a complaint. Topics of this training included:

Approximately 30 people attended the 3-hour training provided by Darlene Owens, Treatment Services Assistant for the Substance Abuse Division of Southeast Michigan Community Alliance. It was well received and the attendees left with a wealth of information as well as a booklet specifically prepared for them. | |
