Safe Summer Shake Down

Local law enforcement and community leaders teamed up to enforce the importance of safe roads and waterways during the Safe Summer Shakedown at Elizabeth Park Arena in Trenton. This is the fourth annual “By Land or Sea, Drive Alcohol Free” campaign.

Downriver law enforcement, elected officials and MADD addressed the audience about the dangers and consequences of boating or driving under the influence, followed by a life jacket demonstration. To add to the day’s excitement, one hundred new life jackets were given away to the first 100 people who arrived at the marina and signed a “By Land or Sea Drive Alcohol Free” pledge. Slurpee coupons were also distributed to safe boaters for proper life jacket use and safe drivers for proper seat belt use.

The campaign sponsored by the Prevention Coalition of Southeast Michigan (PREVCO), SEMCA and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department is an annual event geared to remind the public to be alcohol-free during the last big summer holiday weekend.
