SEMCA Receives Community Partner Award

The Southeast Michigan Community Alliance (SEMCA) was recognized as an outstanding community partner during The Information Center’s (TIC) 8th Annual Gala Celebration and Silent Auction on Thursday, Oct 10. This year’s event grossed more than $51,000 and all proceeds will benefit TIC’s programs and services.

The event was emceed by State Rep William J. O’Neill and began with a VIP reception and silent auction where guests previewed and bid on more than 200 gifts ranging from artwork to a tuition package for the Montessori Center of Downriver. Afterwards a delightful dinner was served followed by an award presentation. The night concluded with entertainment by comedian Don Reese.

Accepting the award on behalf of SEMCA are (left to right), Workforce Development Board Chair Frank Lopez; Executive Director of SEMCA Jack O’Reilly; Workforce Development Board Member and TIC Chairman Lou Neuman; TIC President Ruth Sebaly; SEMCA Education Advisory Group Chair Charlie Mahoney.
“The Community Partner Award is given to companies who exemplify exceptional community acknowledgement and who make a huge impact on the community,” said Ruth Sebaly, president of TIC. “SEMCA received this award because of its dedication and support of our programs including Gala sponsor, supporter of the Good Old Days, member of Board of Advisors, and Master of Ceremonies for the 2001 Gala fundraiser.” “The support we’ve received from SEMCA is phenomenal, and it goes beyond their primary support of the One Call system,” said Sebaly. “If it wasn’t for their help during our computer integration, thousands more dollars would have had to be spent.” “SEMCA is honored to receive an award such as this,” said Frank Lopez, chairman of the SEMCA Board of Directors. “Leadership is what we’re about, and if it wasn’t for TIC being our front door, we couldn’t have helped all those who needed it.”

The Information Center is a private non-profit organization, which focuses on bringing people and services together to residents in Wayne County. Its primary programs include Information and Referral programs and an Eldercare Consultation and Referral Program.

The community partner award is given annually and was implemented to show appreciation to businesses, groups and individuals that have illustrated community spirit by sharing talents and resources.
