Service Centers Participate at
Westin Hotel Job Fair

SEMCA’s commitment of helping people find a career of a lifetime was evident when staff from its service centers were on-hand to assist thousands of job seekers during the Westin Hotel, Detroit Metropolitan Airport’s job fair at the Hellenic Center in Westland.

“The four star hotel, made its landing on Dec. 15 at Detroit’s Edward H. McNamara Terminal at Northwest Airlines WorldGateway. It is projected to bring more jobs to the metro Detroit area and be easily accessible to travelers going to and from the airport,” said Eric Seise, general mana-ger of the Westin.

“The four-day job fair was intended to fill full and part-time positions in banquets, culinary, engineering, guest services, housekeeping, restaurant and security,” said Cary E. Berner, director of human resources. “We offer exceptional benefits including career opportunities in over 730 hotels worldwide.”

“Our response has been tremendous,” said Seise. “The job fair was a success thanks to all the Michigan Works staff who dedicated their time and effort.”

Staff that participated at the job fair reviewed applications and pre-screened candidates. From that point, prospective individuals were then interviewed on the spot by Westin HR staff. Job offers were made to individuals who fit the criteria.

“It’s great we’ve formed a partnership with the Westin,” said Tobi Shingelton, job club coordinator of SEMCA’s Wayne Service Center provider Employment and Training Designs, Inc. “The Westin was very courteous and friendly to our staff, and we hope we can continue our relationship with them.”

“If I had to rate the overall performance of the fair, I would give it a 10. The staff was very friendly and it was awesome”, said Cornitta Raglund, successful job seeker.
The hotel offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision and life insurance, short and long term disability, a 401K retirement plan with employer contributions, paid vacation, sick and holiday time. The hotel also offers tuition reimbursement, paid parking, uniforms and discounted associate hotel rates worldwide.

Over four days, more than 3,000 people looking for work came to the job fair to apply.
