The Southeast Michigan Community Alliance
(SEMCA) is one of 25 MichiganWorks!
agencies created by the state to simplify
public and business access to important
educational, training, self-help and
economic development opportunities.
SEMCA is one of 15 coordinating agencies created by the state to administer block grant and substance abuse services to insure that individuals in our region have easy access to the right treatment for their success.

SEMCA MichiganWorks! is a One-Call,
One-Stop system that connects individuals and businesses with the services they need—quickly and efficiently.

The SEMCA Mission is to provide leadership to create a life long workforce development system that is responsive to market demand.

Our vision for our region is a vital, competitive economy that is sustained by regional private/public partnerships that develop a productive workforce.

SEMCA is governed by three volunteer boards. The Workforce Development Board, the Education Advisory Group, and the Substance Abuse Services Board (SEMSAS).

The SEMCA Workforce Development Board is composed of members from the public and private sectors who work to ensure that the system works for everyone. The SEMSAS Board is comprised of local public health and community representatives. These board members are appointed by the Southeast Government Alliance (SEGA) which is a consortium of local government entities.

To make the system work, SEMCA provides initial contact and assessment services and then either refers the caller to one of several One-Stop Centers or directly to the appropriate service provider. The SEMCA system case manages every customer to ensure that their personal plan is successful.

This means that a single free phone call can connect you to dozens of local, state and federal agencies that can help—today!

That makes SEMCA the perfect combination of customer service and valuable information.

What We Do

The SEMCA/MichiganWorks! process begins with that first phone call to:

1–800–285–WORKS
(Statewide)

From there, our staff will begin to open doors of opportunities for you:

For individuals, we can:
  • help you with your job search
  • provide skills training
  • meet your special needs
  • explore educational options
  • and more!

For business owners, we can:
  • connect you with skilled workers
  • access regulatory assistance
  • provide technical assistance
  • and more!

How?

Regardless of who calls, SEMCA staff will conduct a preliminary interview to assess your needs and suggest the best approach.

In some cases, this could be a referral directly to an appropriate agency-or in most cases, referral to one of five regional One Stop Centers.

One of our One Stop Centers will then work to connect you with the agencies that can make your dream a reality.
